Big old John Walkenbach once complained that bloggers don’t fill out their “about me” sections very much. For the first year and a bit of this blog all I had was “immodest braggard”, highly accurate, but utterly useless. So today that changes hell I might even have bath too!
My name is Ross Mclean, I’m about 28 depending on when you read this, and I live in good old England – Northampton to be precise.
I’ve worked with Excel for about 10 years, cutting my teeth working for BT in “Customer Insight”, which to all intents and purposes means building reports and dashboards. After a while of that malarkey I decided that any career involving looking at spreadsheets for 8 hours a day was not for me, so I packed my wears in to a hanky and went about trying to cut-out a living as a travelling lute player. Without a lute readily to hand this proved to be a tall order. Ever adaptable, I switched to my back up plan and moved into logistics, where I have been blissfully unhappy for about 8 years.
My day job is as a Consultant, helping companies develop supply chain strategies and reduce costs. This typically involves building large-scale computer models of end to end supply chains, which in turn means spending about 8 hours a day looking at a spread sheet – genius!

So, I still have a real interest in spreadsheet development and am now beginning to get stuck into standalone application development too (think VB.Net), which is all very exciting. Away from the PC I like to play sports. I used to be a professional cricketer, of a fashion anyway, playing for Northats CCC, before a bad injury put pay to any hopes of becoming the next Ian Botham. (Well, it may have been lack of talent, but an injury sounds more dynamic!) I still play cricket during the barmy summer months, switching to the more leisurely pursuit of golf during the winter and I could beat Dick Kusleika any day of the week!
If you can you should, if you have been you should stop.
Cheers
Ross
