Standard is better than the express ed. I'm sure with standard you can build VSTO addins, and managed com addins (well you can shim them) - you cant do that with the express version! You jammy bugger!

Thanks Ross. Wouldn't you know that I just won PED in a contest and it arrived yesterday!

I did a usability study recently and scored a copy of Visual Studio Standard. Better, worse, different than VB.NET Express? A post on the basics of getting started would be great. Maybe with an add-in that is ported to each option.

Hi Jayson,
XL Dennis has some grate stuff on his web site, esp his stuff about managed com addins using .Net.

There is a short video on here about VSTO addins which should help get you started.

The most comprehensive resource is of course PED, and the second edition has a lot of .Net (managed com) stuff in, and VSTO, and VB6 Com, and C++, so that one book covers a lot of bases.

It's a good question and probably worth a post actauly.

I would also recommend downloading VB.Net Express and just throwing around some code.

I've been a VBA guy since I started, but mainly because I don't really know much about the other options. Do you know of any good tutorials on how to develop and deploy using the other technologies? I'm not worried about the language differences. Just need something to get through the mechanics of how to work in the new environments.
