I would never, ever, ever use a “cloud” service to type up a business plan or discuss ideas with potential clients, partners, colleagues, etc. Its not 100% secure on my own hard drive, how could it be secure “out there” somewhere. Some of these services, not Google of course, could be running from some kid’s basement! There is no telling what people will do with that information. Privacy policy or not – I just dont trust anyone. In this day and age when a tax evader can get the top job at the IRS, I just dont trust anyone.

As much as I dislike IE (7 + is ok) it is a bit worrying, because its not a huge leap of imagination to see how Firefox could be next. I don’t like Chrome and it worries me that the people behind the main stays of the internet (powerful searching) have now entered in to the arena of the browser. I’m sure Google wont, but there is opportunity to bias it’s web service in favour of it’s own browser, and that would make them Microsoft, a case of hunted turning hunter if ever there was one! I have used a couple of desktop and web based feed programs and google reader has been the best so far.
Coincidentally, I came across this post via Google Reader.

Yeah that’s true, but interesting to see how quickly they updated the TOS.
I should have also said in the post that I just don’t like chrome that much, it find it a bit awkward to used compared to fire fox, what do others think?

Hi Jon,
Are all of them on-line? I’ve only ever used on-line RSS tools, figuring that it make more sense, but I’m think about using a desktop app now that I’m starting to use them quite a bit. Actually I did use Thunderbird for RSS, but I don’t really count that!

1. The Google Reader is among the best I’ve used. Granted, I’ve only used four or five, but Google’s is pretty nice.

2. You retain copyright on your works. This means you have the right to dictate who can copy your works, and in which manner. For you to use Google Docs or any other cloud-based document processing and storage systems, require that they can copy your works, not for nefarious purposes, but simply to make backups and to follow the commands you invoke. Google’s lawyers are only covering their butts.
