Google Notes: Good!

I’ve been morning a bit lately so I thought I would take the time to make a post about some thing good!
I have been using Google notes for about a month or so now and I find it really works well.
Basically it allows you to copy bits of web pages (and stores a link back to the source), then you can joint down notes along side what you have clipped. The idea has been around for a long time, there used to be another app that did the same thing, (snobole or something).

The notes screen is a little pop up type affair which sits in the bottom (or top) of the window, you can select text from a web page and add it with a click.
When you want to you can export/transfer/copy it to Google docs, and play around with it.

If you do a lot of research on the web, give it a try.

Now, if it could auto-magically add citations out of Pdf’s,….

I dont know. It looks great. I just dont know how much to trust Google with my thoughts and ideas. You know? I mean, you come up with a great idea and you bookmark it and comment on it and so forth and where is that data being stored? On Google’s machines. A year later you see your idea out there generating income for someone else and wonder how they knew….. I like to keep things to myself.

I have had too many not-so-good experiences with storing stuff online. Even in my “own” hosting environment. My grandmother once told me, “if you dont want anyone to know then dont write it down or tell anyone – just keep it to yourself”. Google Notes are great but………. there are a whole lot of unknowns who will see what you wrote down about …….. Just my thoughts..

Interesting point Mike. Not sure that Google will actually bother to read all the comments people make in there Notes app, but I think they do look at the links people are making, and use that some how.
I can’t recall any instances when people have been upset by anything Google have done though.
